[stag] TR6 engine in a Stag, Part Deaux

Staggers:

The TR6 engine transplant is humming right along.
The 2500S front engine plate, PAS brackets and front crossmember arrived from
Chris Witor in the U.K. and were then powdercoated. Now the engine will bolt
right up to the Stag, no cutting, no welding, no modifying. All factory
designed, engineered and manufactured parts. So, this can be reversed in the
future in case some new owner wants to re-install a Stag V8.

I selected a uprated camshaft that gives more torque at low to mid-range, the
cylinder head has been taken down .20 thousands to bump compression up a bit.
Triple carbs are being sourced. John at Quantum Mechanics in Connecticut built
me a J-Type Overdrive with a TR6 input shaft and heavy duty Stag internals. A
six-cylinder tachometer from a 2500 S is on the way.

I just need to work out the exhaust and cooling systems. Headers will be used,
but I want to preserve the original Stag twin rear exhaust pipes. I will
probably go with a Stag radiator and electric fan.
Hope to have the car on the road this fall. It is at the body shop now,
stripped to the bone, and changing in colour from Magenta to black. Richard

Tripple carbs?

Really, I'm not convinced that tripple carbs are any benefit on the 2.5l engine.

There's a TR6 in my local group with tripple SUs. I don't believe for a minute that it moves out any faster than twins.

I'm currently running a Datsun 2.6L with a pair of 1 3/4" SUs....Kinda yearning for a 2.8L with a turbo....

Hi Richard,
I have sent you some pics of my 2500 PI installation. The tailshaft is custom length, but everything else should be a straight up bolt on fit. If you find and rebuild a PI system, then there will be two cars that I know of.
One issue that I and no doubt others found with electric fans is the word Lucas, In my case after making sure the factory fuse mounts and connectors were all in great shape, it was an aptly named ignition relay in the footwell that chose the hot summers day in bumper to bumper traffic that failed. After igniting and releasing it's smoke behind the dash and up to the windscreen, scaring the bejeezus out of me, I have never parked a car so damned quickly. Luckily all went well, as that relay only fed the OD and windows as well, so I was again on my way with no electric fan, relying on the crank shaft only. I have taken the fan power off the wiring harness now completely.
Take the time to confirm your electric path to the fan and any extras you ad to the system.
Dave.
