Remote control door mirror - 73 Federal Stag

Any chance someone out there has a good mirror case and post? My glass is good, and all the cables are good, but the chrome shop tells me the pitting is so bad on the case that the pot metal base is sure to be deeply pitted, meaning they will be hard to grind out.

As others have mentioned, the mirror can be sourced from either AMCs or Jags. One thing to note is the mirror head-to-stalk connection can be a little different on those as compared to the Stag mirror (namely Jag). What I mean is that the actual head on the Stag mirror can be reversed to be used on the passenger side. I don't believe the Jag mirror can do the same. They can be different. Also, you will find that the cables for the remote can be a different length (The cables on the Jag are both longer and shorter than the ones on the Stag).

Are you using one on the passenger side as well or just the driver's side? If so on the passenger's side the gasket situation will be an issue as well.

I have a pair of US remote mirrors on my UK car.
I made them up using the stems and heads from US eBay, AMC as stated, but then the cables and joy stick/trim from Jaguar XJS remote mirrors, the ones which are boxy square in appearance.
A few years ago I changed a broken mirror on my cousins Fiat Punto, and was surprised the cable linkage and joystick was the same, some 30 years apart!
Regarding the plastic stem base, I used thick rubber instead, works fine.
